Rexercise
Lyddia and Glenn host their annual Rexercise event in honor of their son, Rex, who tragically passed away from NEC.
Rex
Rexercise for a world without NEC
In partnership with Energy X Fitness and Dos Sirenos Brewing, Lyddia and Glenn raise awareness and funds for the NEC Society by inspiring their local community to put on their Rexercise merch and join them for a day of movement, food, drinks, and more – all benefiting the NEC Society’s advancement of research, education, and advocacy!
Rex was born prematurely at 23 weeks and 6 days gestation. When Rex was two weeks old, his care team discovered that he had a ventricular septal defect (VSD), which is a congenital heart defect (CHD).
Babies born prematurely or with a medical condition, like a CHD, are at an increased risk of NEC.
When Rex was 19 days old, he developed NEC. The next morning, Rex tragically passed away in Lyddia’s arms, surrounded by love.
"Advocacy is a huge part of what parenting after the tragic loss of Rex looks like for Glenn and me."
Lyddia, Rex's mom, NEC Society Patient-Family Advisor
About the NEC Society
The NEC Society is the world’s leading nonprofit dedicated to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). NEC is a devastating intestinal disease that primarily affects premature and medically fragile infants. Tragically, NEC is a leading cause of death in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).
The NEC Society is led by a global community of patient-families, clinicians, and scientists. Together, we are accelerating NEC research, education, and advocacy, and transforming what is possible for infants and families.
The NEC Society was launched in January of 2014 by Jennifer Canvasser after her son, Micah, died from complications of NEC just before his first birthday.
