Pediatric Surgeon, Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Norton Children's Hospital

Dr. Christie Buonpane is an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Louisville and Norton Children’s Hospital. Her research focuses on necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and neonatal intestinal barrier development, with an emphasis on basic and translational research to improve outcomes for premature infants. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration and program development. Her clinical niche grew from caring for NEC survivors with intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome. This interest led to her helping to establish and lead a new Intestinal Rehabilitation Program at Norton Children’s Hospital.
