Alexandra Leegwater, MD, is mentored by Steve McElroy, MD, the Chief of Neonatology at the University of California, Davis.
Her project will investigate a specific host defense peptide’s ability to protect and prevent injury of the immature intestine, like necrotizing enterocolitis. The Marshall Klaus Award, funded by the NEC Society, will support laboratory operations for this 18-month project.
