The original Tree of Courage painting was created by artist Leslie Napolitano in honor of her grandson, Micah, who tragically passed away from necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Inspired by Micah’s strength and bright smile, the painting has grown into a powerful symbol for the NEC community.
Today, the Tree of Courage represents the strength of all babies and families who have endured the devastation of NEC, as well as the extraordinary dedication of the care teams who support these precious babies.
