Thank you to everyone who made the NEC Symposium in Ann Arbor, Michigan an incredible success! We had 215 diverse participants from Japan, Brazil, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Kenya, Australia, China, Mexico, Canada, and 30 U.S. states!
The NEC Symposium was made possible through a partnership between the NEC Society and Section of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Michigan, with generous support from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).
Among the many research posters featured at the NEC Symposium, we integrated posters from the NEC Society’s patient-families. We can learn so much from our babies and families who have been impacted by this devastating disease. Our posters help to facilitate conversations around strategies to improve care and drive research. Additional patient-family posters featured at the NEC Symposium are available by clicking here.
The Symposium agenda is available here. This fall, we will publish a supplement in Pediatric Research featuring 10 manuscripts focused on topics covered at the NEC Symposium including Disparities in Care, Defining and Diagnosing NEC, Probiotics, Mothers Own Milk, and much more.
Many of our sessions were recorded and will be available on MedEd on-the-go’s website in the coming months.
The next NEC Symposium will take place in early 2021 in partnership with Dr. Jae Kim. The dates and location will be announced soon. Stay tuned!
