Remembering Dr. Allison Rose

The NEC Society is mourning the tragic loss of Dr. Allison Rose, who cared for infants as a neonatologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Allison’s leadership within the NEC Society began at the 2019 NEC Symposium, and she became increasingly involved in the NEC Society’s research and advocacy efforts until her devastating cancer diagnosis in 2024. We are forever grateful for Allison’s dedication to patient-families and contributions to our mission of building a world without NEC.

Allison played a pivotal role in establishing and executing our NEC Research Priorities, as well as launching the NEC Registry.

We share Allison’s commitment to equity, advocacy, and optimizing care to protect infants from necrotizing enterocolitis. We will continue to honor Allison by advancing our work to prevent NEC and holding her memory in our hearts.

To carry on Allison’s light, the NEC Society has allocated funding for the Allison Rose Advocacy Scholarship. This travel scholarship honoring Allison will be open to trainees and early career faculty with a focus on NEC and advocacy to participate in the 2025 NEC Symposium in Chicago. The application will be announced in January 2025 to NEC Research Incubator members.

We hope you’ll join us in holding Allison in your hearts, always.
