National Association of Neonatal Nurses, Northern California Chapter

NEC Society founder and director, Jennifer Canvasser, led a plenary session highlighting the importance of patient-family centered care in the NICU and how neonatal nurses can partner with NICU parents.

Human Milk Banking Association of North America Symposium

NEC Society founder and director, Jennifer Canvasser, led a plenary session highlighting how human milk is medicine for fragile infants at risk of necrotizing enterocolitis, from a mother’s perspective. 

APRIL 2017

2017 NEC Symposium: a Transdisciplinary Approach to Improved Outcomes

The NEC Society hosted the first meeting in North America specifically focused on improved outcomes of necrotizing enterocolitis. The 2017 NEC Symposium was made possible by a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Engagement Award, the UC Davis Department of Pediatrics and our incredible community of supporters. NEC Society Research Collaborative 

The NEC Society launches the NEC Society Research Collaborative: a collaborative committed to improving the prevention and treatment of neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis by bringing together multidisciplinary investigators to conduct novel research as one collective team. The Research Collaborative values the patient-family voice in the development, implementation, and analysis of its projects.

The NEC Society and Best for Babes Foundation hosted the 3rd annual – international – Miracle Milk Stroll to raise awareness, funds and human milk donation to ensure all premature infants receive the #MiracleMilk they need to reduce their risks of necrotizing enterocolitis.

NEC Society receives PCORI Engagement Award to host first US-based NEC Conference

The NEC Society has been approved for a Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to support: Necrotizing Enterocolitis Symposium: A Transdisciplinary Approach to Improved NEC Outcomes. The conference will be held in northern California in spring 2017. More info here.

Miracle Milk Stroll 

The NEC Society and Best for Babes Foundation held the second annual Miracle Milk Stroll to ensure all fragile infants receive the #MiracleMilk they need to reduce their risks of necrotizing enterocolitis.
