We are grateful and thrilled to share that we exceeded our NEC Awareness Day fundraising goal!
With our global partners, the NEC Society declared May 17 as World NEC Awareness Day in 2018. Each year since, NEC Day has allowed us to highlight the urgency of the work that we do every day to advance NEC research, education, and advocacy.
For the first time, we dedicated more of our NEC Awareness Day efforts to fundraising in support of our vision – a world without NEC. We highlighted a family committed to matching donations up to $10,000 in honor of their son Micah who died from necrotizing enterocolitis.
Our goal for NEC Awareness Day was to raise a total of $20,000.
Thanks to supporters like YOU, our NEC Day campaign brought together 191 donors and raised a total of $33,688 and counting!
Thank you for ensuring we maximized our matching gift and for joining the movement to build a world without NEC.
The funds raised for NEC Awareness Day will allow us to provide research grants to centers participating in the NEC Biorepository, where scientists are working to develop biomarkers that can predict a baby’s risk of developing the disease and offer preventive strategies against it. Equally exciting, the NEC Awareness Day funds will help us launch our Empowerment and Bereavement packages for families recently affected by NEC. Our packages will help to ensure families have the information and resources they need after their baby has either been diagnosed with or died from NEC. We will be sure to update you on this work as it moves forward.
As a patient-led nonprofit, we intimately understand the devastation of NEC. We are beyond grateful for your support and for the impact of your gift. Together, we are building a world without NEC!
