The NEC Society is a 501c3, nonpartisan organization that warmly welcomes all viewpoints and perspectives. This is an opportune time to remind our community the values upon which the NEC Society was founded. Yes, the NEC Society’s core mission is to reduce the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis in premature infants. Yet, our values and commitments extend beyond necrotizing enterocolitis.
The NEC Society is committed to the health of families, mothers, and fragile infants. We value diverse communities and support the empowerment of women, minorities, the LGBT community, people with disabilities, and other traditionally marginalized groups. The NEC Society deeply values the protection of our natural resources and efforts that promote a healthy environment. One of the most effective ways to prevent necrotizing enterocolitis is to prevent premature births. Yet, air pollution and environmental toxicants have been shown to increase the premature birth rate. To raise healthy children, we must provide them with a healthy planet.
The NEC Society will stand up for the most vulnerable among us. We will advocate and be the change we seek to see in our world. We hope you’ll join us. Here’s how:
- Join the NEC Society leadership committee.
- Volunteer in your local community.
- Make sure your voice is heard by calling, writing and visiting your legislators.
- Donate your time, money, skills and resources to a cause that inspires you.
